About
My name is Long Tien Nguyen, and I am a Ph.D. student in Software Engineering in the Software & Societal Systems department at Carnegie Mellon University. I am advised by Jonathan Aldrich.
My research is on making deductive program verification practical for everyday developers. I designed and implemented Alethiometer, a debugger for deductive program verification. I also mentor undergraduate students in programming languages research, and I have served as a teaching assistant for 17-313: Foundations of Software Engineering.
Before my Ph.D., I was a software engineer at Mautinoa Technologies in Washington, DC, where I designed the Patronus Mobile Transaction Platform, which enables secure mobile payments even without a network connection. I completed my BS in Computer Science at UCLA in 2016. As an undergraduate, I was a research assistant at Viewpoints Research Institute, where I worked on the historic preservation of software and the Nile stream-processing language for the STEPS Toward Expressive Programming Systems project.
In my free time, I enjoy learning languages: I speak English, Russian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, and I am learning French.
